68% of the Tax Revenue of Holmdel goes to The Board of Education. Only 13% goes to the
Township Committee and the rest goes to Monmouth County.
Holmdel Township has a fiscal problem. We are $35 million + in Debt. Our Debt Service Cost is
$6 million & we need to keep $4 million in reserves to maintain its AAA rating for the town.
Thus, $10 million is already spoken for. The PILOT program brings in $4 million. Our Court fees
are dropping due to the change in legislation at the State level. No Dollars ($) are left for Turf
field support. My opponent only talks about taxing and spending, and is really a Tax & spend
liberal. Previous Committees, Republican controlled under his father and other Mayors, have
saddled us with debt & debt service. This way we will end up having to raise taxes. The
Township gets nothing from the Turf field. We will pay maintenance and installation and repairs
every 10 years.
We are beginning to share costs with neighboring towns, like Colts Neck, with whom we share
Court costs. But other with various shared services need to be found with other towns to
reduce costs. And I will work to implement more of these to reduce our operational costs.
I support working with the BOE to reduce our taxes. That can only happen when the BOE has
cut out the fat in its budget. We know that there is approx. $2.5MM in its budget that is
discretionary and in excess of what other peer schools spend.
My opponent has never bothered to understand the budget of the township or the BOE and
makes claims that he will cut taxes while promoting spending. This is nothing more than
political pandering.
